The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition is an enhanced and expanded remaster of the original The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, adding new enemies, equipment, locations, and characters, and including all DLC. Additionally, the game features remastered graphics, new effects, and increased environmental detail.

• The first thing you´ll notice is the updated color scheme and a host of new filters. While the standard version of Skyrim primarily featured cool, muted, and even washed-out tones with an abundance of gray, brown, and white, the remastered version brings a vibrant new look. The new color scheme isn´t exactly a drawback, but it might feel unusual to those who haven´t installed mods and played the standard version of the game.
• The remastered version adds high-resolution shadows and a beautiful God Rays effect. As for textures and effects, the Special Edition doesn´t offer any significant changes. The remastered version features improved textures from the free official Skyrim High Resolution Pack, which was previously available for the Steam version of the original. It looks good, but some textures still lack clarity.
• The same applies to the new water shaders. Beautiful waves have appeared on the rivers´ surfaces, and the water now has clear reflections, but the shader still resembles the inky, opaque mass from the original Skyrim. The draw distance has also changed slightly.
• Among the truly significant changes, it´s worth noting the significantly increased amount of vegetation. All sorts of mushrooms and flowers have sprouted along bare paths, and the forests look truly dense thanks to the dense foliage. The snow in the mountains has also improved. A special shader has been applied to it, so it now shimmers beautifully and sparkles in the sun.
• Bethesda ported Skyrim - Special Edition to a modified version of the Creation Engine, which was already used in Fallout 4. The new engine supports 64-bit, and DirectX 11 is now the primary graphics API. The older version of the Creation Engine (which powered the original Skyrim) supported DirectX 9, and its bit depth was 32-bit. • The updated engine is faster and more stable. RAM usage is no longer limited to four gigabytes, which is great news for those who enjoy installing a wide variety of mods, the total size of which can be tens of gigabytes.
